About

Adam Backer

A bad day on the water beats a good day in the office.

Born and raised in Norwalk, CT, Adam has been boating since a very early age (roughly eight). Starting as a deckhand aboard his grandfather Henry's lobster boat, the FV Lady Elaine, Adam built a comprehensive set of foundational skills.

He later added summers skippering pump-out boats for Terry Backer's Soundkeeper organization, along with his own recreational lobster and blue-crab fishing.

Adam spent many years in California working for big tech companies, and it was there — in the San Francisco Bay — that he was introduced to sailing, getting out as often as he could on friends' boats.

In 2018 Adam began planning a career shift, working toward a goal to become a licensed Master and one day work full-time on the water, connecting with his past and his family legacy. Adam believes wholeheartedly that a bad day on the water is better than a good day in the office.
